How To Deep Clean Your Air Fryer in 10 simple steps?

Almost all the delicious food items are considered to be unhealthy. The reason behind that is delicious food always contains excessive amounts of cholesterol, sugar, grease, etc. To avoid this you have gone an extra mile and bought the best air fryer in India for home use, but you don’t know how to deep clean your air fryer.

Air fryers are a great way to keep yourselves healthy as they use a very little amount of oil as compared to regular cooking. But in the end, there is some frying involved and there is always some greasy residue left for you to clean.

The first thing we need to keep in mind after using an air fryer is to clean it after each cooking cycle, which can be quite tedious if you don’t know what you are doing.

So first things first. Here is a list of things you will be needing to deep clean your air fryer:

  • Dish soap
  • Baking soda
  • Lukewarm water (if available)
  • Paper towel
  • Dam microfiber cloth or a non-abrasive sponge.
  • An old toothbrush
  • Clean dry cloth
  • Cotton swabs

Instructions for how to deep clean your air fryer:

  1. After the cooking session, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool for 30 minutes.
  2. Disassemble the baskets and pans. Empty the oil from the drip tray as well.
  3. Any excessive grease which can be removed with the help of a paper towel should be removed.
  4. Put the baskets and pans in hot soapy water for at least 10 minutes. Check whether the parts are dishwasher safe on the manual and you can go with a dishwasher as well.
  5. Using the damp microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge with a drop of dish soap wipe down the interior.
  6. Turn it upside down and use a damp microfiber cloth or sponge to wipe the heating element.
  7. If there is any baked or harden up residue make a paste of water and baking soda and use the old toothbrush and start scrubbing gently after the paste is settled in for a few minutes.
  8. For hard-to-reach corners, you can use cotton swabs as well. It might take multiple swabs for you to clean.
  9. Wipe away the residue with a clean damp cloth.
  10. Before assembling the appliance dry all the removable parts and clean from outside as well for the longevity of the appliance using a dry cloth. It goes without saying that not all parts are washable, especially the electronic ones.

Tips before you start cleaning your Air Fryer.

Here is a list of some do’s and don’ts which will help you in keeping your Air fryer up and running in the long run.

  • Avoid using metal utensils, steel-wired brushes, or abrasive sponges to clean residue from your air fryer as it can damage the non-stick coating of the air fryer.
  • As we have mentioned earlier as well, the main unit is an electronic component and should not be made wet.
  • Make a habit of cleaning your air fryer after every use.
  • Usage of disinfectants that are not food contact safe should be avoided. They can cause more harm than profit.

When to clean your air fryer?

Although it is not necessary, our recommendation is to make a habit of cleaning the air fryer after every use.

Cleaning the air fryer becomes mandatory if you have cooked something greasy in the machine and there are chances of solidification of residue in it.

Check the heating coil for oil or residue as well and if you find anything once the appliance is cooled down wipe it with a damp cloth.

For hard-to-reach surfaces, you can use an old toothbrush whose head is wrapped around a damp cloth or a paper towel.

The parts of an air fryer which need regular cleaning are the basket, tray, and pan. Wiping down the interior with a damp cloth is also a good idea as it prevents the gathering of gunk at the surface.

Do not delay cleaning of air fryers as you might regret it later. If you leave the residue of food crumbs they might cause a pungent smell as well.

How to get rid of Lingering odors coming from your air fryer?

There are two reasons why your air fryer is giving a bad odor:

  1. It is a new air fryer and you are experiencing a plasticky chemical smell when you are using the air fryer.
  2. Some food items have been left stuck in the air fryer and they are the culprit here which is the root cause of the problem.

How to get rid of Lingering odors coming out of a new air fryer

Follow the steps below to get rid of the plasticky smell of a new air fryer:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl put some white vinegar and 2-3 spoons of lemon juice.
  • Place the bowl filled with the mixture in the basket and run it for 5-10 minutes at 400 degrees.
  • You might have to repeat this process 3-4 times.
  • It will probably remove the factory smell from your air fryer.

If this trick doesn’t work then try to contact the manufacturer of the air fryer and explain the situation. Chances are they might replace the unit if the problem persists.

How to get rid of Lingering odors if food particles are stuck in your air fryer.

As we have discussed earlier if the smell is due to the stuck food particles in your air fryer you can follow the following steps:

  • Make a thick paste of baking soda and water.
  • Apply the paste all over the machine(inside and washable parts only).
  • Leave it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Use an old toothbrush, toothpick, cotton swabs to clean the hard-to-reach surfaces.
  • Use a microfiber cloth to dry out the removable parts of the air fryer.
  • Clean it thoroughly and assemble it.
  • It should be ready for next time usage and probably smelling less now.

Cleaning an air fryer just after usage is a healthy habit as the bits of food pieces also come off easily and do not produce any odor. These steps might not make your air fryer new but they will surely make it smell better and feel more hygienic.
